Rawcliffe: Family Walk

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2009-07-04

We tried another family walk, but this time we were loners with just our family of four for company. It was a still, sunny, warm, afternoon (that was our error!) We set off from Rawcliffe village in the NY Moors and headed down towards the NY Moors railway, but to avoid lots of mud, and a herd of cows, we took a longer detour. When we arrived at the railway station, it was glorious, as we saw the steam train heading in, we stopped for ice-cream and re-evaluated our walk.

How Stean Gorge: Family Walk

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2009-06-21

The first walk we led as a family was to How Stean Gorge near Pateley Bridge. We had decided to try out our new tent at a local site on Saturday evening, but only decided to leave home at 2pm, as it was raining! We need not have worried, it was glorious when we arrived and our first tent erecting went very well, despite another tent being on our allotted pitch! We ended up on a quieter field so we were happy. It was madness though, taking 2 girls who like sleeping in the dark out to camp on a night when it was only dark for 5 hours!
