Great Shunner  Fell. 2nd July 2016

“It was a dark and stormy night.....”

I always wanted to start a walk report with that line, but on the Saturday of the S.O.C. club camp it had been a stormy night on Friday. So only four walkers, Tracy, Jill, Trevor and myself  set off from Usher Gap on the `strenuous` walk up

I have never seen the trig point (at 236 meters) before so it is a "first" for me. Only Maura and I were on the expedition but the sun was shining and all was well with the world.

"It was the SOC walkers both lads and lasses

With a hey, and a ho, and a  hey nonny no

That over the green pastures passes

In the springtime, the only pretty ringtime

When birds do sing, hey ding a ding ding

Sweet walkers love the spring"

Cat Bells without oxygen ! Tuesday 7th June, 2016

Our walk for the 50,000 feet challenge was to climb Cat Bells in Borrowdale and Berni & Mark T joined us for the drive to Keswick.  We met up with Jill at the Lakeside Car Park.

The weather was very warm & sunny with high humidity and we set off for Portinscale for our coffee stop where three people enjoyed bacon butties !

26 MAY 2016. LEYBURN – HARMBY. Squelch, Squelch, Squelch!

I made the mistake a couple of years ago of writing a walk report, jokingly entitled “Why does it always rain on me?”  This joke is wearing a bit thin and seems to be becoming something of a jinx.

Wharfedale 4 Day Medley – 12 to 15 May 2016

A disappointing total of 11 section members took the opportunity to take part in the second multi-day non-residential event of the year.

With no takers at all for the planned walk on Saturday from Kettlewell, despite bright sunshine and generally excellent weather conditions on the day.
