Steve and Carol's 25 miles from Leyburn Report 9.3.11

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2011-03-12

The forecast for the day had been rubbish, but when we gathered at Leyburn, the sky was bright and sunny but there was a very strong westerly wind. 8 of us started from Leyburn and soon met up with Lyn and Steve who had been delayed with a puncture. James warned us gloomily that we would pay for the exhilarating downhill stretch with the wind! Barbara suggested that we continue eastwards to Saltburn, with the wind all the way, and get the train back !

Wet Ride From Brompton Sunday 6 February 2011

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2011-02-18

No one could have been more surprised than me when 8 very keen souls gathered on an extremely wet Sunday morning.  How impressed was I!  James was on his way from Richmond so we headed out toward Deighton to meet him.

Boggle Hole 11-12th Sept 2010

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2011-01-05

Cyclists from Richmond, Darlington, Brompton and Northallerton converged on Roots café in East Rounton for a morning coffee stop before the ride to Boggle Hole. Judith and Laura rode out with John to enjoy the bacon butties, but alas Charles was unable to join us all day due to a late start and a couple of punctures! Liz and Helen travelled part way by train, Julie drove across to join us and Carol appeared from somewhere!

Northallerton to Whitby - not quite! 23.10.10

I set off alone from the Standard on what promised to be a day of very mixed conditions, safe in the knowledge that I wouldn’t be alone for long as Martin was due to meet me at either Stokesley or Castleton. I arrived in Stokesley after no less than 3 changes of jacket as the initial drizzle turned to heavy then torrential rain. Noting Martin’s “skip” parked by the road side I expected to find him either flaked out in a cafe or perusing the bike shop – in fact he was nowhere to be seen so I set out alone assuming him to be getting a head start over the hills.

Brompton Round Trip

Nine hardy souls joined me, in a timely fashion, at Brompton in reasonable weather compared to the previous day.  It was great to welcome Di who was joining us for the very first time.  Despite my assurances of what a well behaved lot we were and that she was in very good hands, she had every reason to wonder what she was letting herself in for!  After a short resume of the route we set off, with Liz setting a handy pace, toward East Harsley.  At the bottom of Carlton Bank a scheduled refuel was welcomed by some and ignored by the fearless who boldly carried on eager to conqu

11 members and one guest met at the clubhouse on a cold, breezy day for Steve and Carol’s ride. Despite the cold, the party was in good spirits as the sun shone down from a cloudless sky.

Provence in September and 3 times up Mt Ventoux

I'm writing this as Anne ferries us up the Autoroutes of Southern  France where we've just spent 2 weeks camping at Buis les Barronies in Northern Provence by the River Ouvreze. We deliberately chose this location for it's scenic beauty, first rate roads for cycling, the close proximity to Mt Ventoux and not least the very good campsite we experienced on our last visit in 2003.
