Richmond - Askrigg 6 December 2014

Posted by James Gravenor on 2014-12-06

Bernadine, Melanie, Barbara, Mick and I cycled from Richmond via Hudswell, Downholme, Preston under Scar and Redmire to Aysgarth Falls. The weather was cold, a strong wind blew against us, and the roads were icy in parts. We settled into the cafe at the National Park centre, took off several layers and were about to order when we discovered that the lavatories at the centre were out of use because of a blockage.

Posted by on 2014-08-17

Our annual trip to the Lake District included a programmed ride on the Wednesday prior to our walk on the Thursday.  Mark T was staying overnight to join us on both days. No doubt some were put off by the weather forecast but Anne Ballard arrived and was having none of this.  In the event, we had a fine, breezy day!

Yvonne's Ride From Ravensworth Wed 2 July 2014

Posted by on 2014-07-02

I first led this ride last May in celebration of my 60th but, unsurprisingly, only Jenny and Bernardine opted to repeat it again this year with me. I wonder why! The other five were warned about the hills and still they came. Charles and Graham even cycled from home to the start as well. The others were Peter, Julie and Pauline. Most people knew the first little hill was only a warm up. We had only just got started on the second when Pauline asked "Are we there yet?" Fortunately the day was warm with not too much of a headwind.

.Perth to Stirling 35miles 2832ft of ascent.

12 cyclists all arrived in Perth by different means and met in a café within the town.

Once we had had lunch and were all refuelled, we cycled out of the town and into the countryside.  On our way out of Perth we passed the Glen Eagles golf club and saw how the other half spends their time.

We past a monument of a young women that had been burnt on a stake because she was deemed to be a witch date 1542,  these must have been very dark days.

Lakeland Passes 21 June 2014

Posted by James Gravenor on 2014-06-24

Melanie had the idea for this year's cycling challenge - why not cycle up the six major Lakeland Passes (Kirkstone, Wrynose, Hardknott, Whinlatter, Newlands and Honister)? Why not indeed - well here are some good reasons: it is 97 miles, with 13,000 foot of climb and with no flat bits between the passes - exclude the passes themselves and it's still a very hilly ride. Oh and not to mention the 33% climbs.
