Cam Crag Ridge

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2012-11-08
Cam Crag RidgeIt was thanks to spectacular weather that we had such a great time scrambling in the Lakes. Here's how the day unfolded. We were six members who arrived at Seathwaite at around 11.00am. The party was Phil and Janet, Andy (from Thirsk), Ginny, Neil and me.

Climbing October
Our Wednesdsay evening crag meets ended (fitingly) with rain at Scugdale followed by Pie and peas at the Jet Miners in Broughton. Only four hardy climbers (and runner) arrived at the crag to do several cold wet scrambles before smugly descending top the pub to meet the fair weather climbers waiting at the bar.

Camp Hill

A select band of three, me John B, and Andy3 headed for the the tiny but very pleasant Camp Hill in Eskdale. Carol and Bruce having opted for the (by comparison, towering limestone of Twistleton!)
While the Vale of York shivered in mist we had sunshine and beautiful views over the N.Y.Moors, Danby Dale and over Botton village. The crag is approached from the road on top of the ridge and is about fifteen mins. walk over the heather.

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2012-09-25
The intended programme was for Andy's meet to be in the Lakes. However inclement weather in the North West forced a change of plan to head south. We were 2 climbers arriving at Wharncliffe just before 10.00am.

Early June Bank Holiday

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2012-07-09
Due to a bad forecast in Wales Andy's weekend was changed to the Lakes. Then when he injured his ankle the previous Wednesday at Ravenscar the weekend away was looking like a no hoper.

June Review

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2012-07-02
June started optimistically after an excellent trip to Dow Crag at the end of May. Andy P moved the Wales camping weekend to the Lakes  in order to avoid the Welsh Monsoon.(Report to follow)

Shepherd's Crag Borrowdale - 6 May 2012

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2012-05-20

Four climbers met at Scotch Corner at 9.00am for the trip to Borrowdale. Phil, Callum, Andy P and me. The sun was shining as we set off down the A66. However at Thelkeld the sky turned black and the heavens opened. We carried on, if nothing else, with thoughts of bacon sandwiches at Shepherd's cafe. On arrival Andy P and I were devastated to find the cafe closed and "It opens tomorrow." from the farmer's young child. Things could only get better I thought. And they did. The rain clouds dispersed and the sun came out.
