After an initial confusing route, clarification as to where we were going became apparent and eight of us left the Bike Centre on a hot and sunny day with soaring temperatures. We made steady progress up Arkengarthdale; regrouping under welcome shady trees before ascending up to Surrender Bridge. The views were glorious and the heather smelt divine. We dropped down to the water splash where we had an impromptu yoga lesson from our guru Mags whilst straddling the bridge. No mean feat whilst wearing cleats. Thankfully she didn't expect us to knit at the same time!
We then dropped down to Scaba Wath Bridge before turning onto Harkerside. Another impromptu stop at the top for a photo call followed. After a lovely descent we returned to the Bike Centre for lunch. Service was prompt despite it being very busy but we enjoyed a cooling breeze under the marquee whilst we waited for our food.
Return journeys varied with two of us being gluttons for punishment going over Grinton Moor and the others taking probably the more sensible option and returning along the lower road. Mileage was approximately 28 miles or so and 3000 ft of climbing. Jenny
