The ride was scheduled for Saturday 28th June but was postponed due to inclement weather. Instead the ride was held on Monday the 30th June in glorious weather.
8 cyclists turned up at Leyburn Auction Mart for a 10.00 am start in sweltering conditions. We gained the tank road via the steep climb out of Leyburn passing the works on the new housing estate. To avoid the trucks we descended to Preston Under Scar and thereafter made our way to Askrigg via Redmire, Carperby and Nappa Scar. A good re-fueling stop at the Bakewell was very welcome.
A warm south westerly wind at the turn off for the Buttertubs pass was very refreshing. We re-grouped at Simonstone and each cyclist tackled the classic climb at their own speed. The compulsory summit photo was followed by a rapid descent into Swaledale with stunning views.
Next stop was the DBC for a late lunch, before completing the ride back to Leyburn via Wathgill and Bellerby.
44 miles, 3720 ft of ascent with temperatures topping 28 deg C and some tired legs.
