Buck Moon Ride – Saturday Night Adventure
Saturday nights are made for dancing, but even better — a Buck Moon ride is hard to beat.At the stroke of 10pm, four of us rolled out of Bedale: three seasoned riders and our newcomer Steve, who came equipped with the brightest front light I’ve ever seen (seriously impressive!). We set off at a cracking pace that even suited Jenny, giving her the chance to spot plenty of wildlife — owls, bats, birds in abundance, foxes, hares, and deer.
Passing through Boroughbridge, we were surprised to find it buzzing with nightlife — pubs open late and a lively crowd, more reminiscent of Benidorm than North Yorkshire on a Saturday night!
We had our traditional banana stop in the Market Square before trying out a new route to Wetherby. On reflection, the usual route is definitely more scenic — but variety keeps things interesting. We arrived in Wetherby right on schedule at 1:00am and tucked into our coffee and sandwiches, once we’d figured out how to work the fancy new Costa Coffee machine!
After some entertaining chats with the staff and a few curious onlookers (who clearly questioned our sanity), we set off back to Bedale. This time, we stayed on track — no fields, no wrong turns — and wrapped up the ride at 5:00am with 66 miles under our belts.
A perfect night ride. Big thanks to everyone for making it another brilliant outing!
