Audaxes 2013 - Saturday 21 September 2013

The  2013 audax events will take place on Saturday 21 September 2013, all starting from the club house on New Road, Richmond.

This year there will be 4 events:

Dave’s Dales Tour Plus                           200KM

A challenging route covering some of the most scenic roads in the Yorkshire Dales, heading from Richmond over to Redmire,
then along the quite byway through Wensleydale to Hawes, over Fleet Moss to the first control in Kettlewell.
From here you will head down to Burnsall via a detour into Littondale, over Greenhow to the Pately Bridge control, then over Loft House
and on to control in Ripon. The last 50KM of the ride is much flatter and provides for a relaxed cruise to the finish.
The control times have been adjusted to suit the majority of riders likely to enter, so with a minimum average speed of 14.3KM/h
over 14 hours are allowed. Over 2900m of climbing are included which makes the event eligible for 3.25 AAA altitude points.

Dave’s Dales Tour                                    160KM

A slightly shorter, but equally challenging route covering the same stretch as above up to Aysgarth, but then heading down Bishopdale,
over Kidstones to control in Kettlewell. From here the route heads immediately onto Greenhow Hill and joins the 200KM route
for the rest
of the event, controlling at Ripon and with a relaxed flatter 50KM to the finish. Again, the control times have been adjusted to suit the
majority of riders likely to enter, so with a minimum average speed of 12KM/h over 13 hours are allowed. Over 2500m of climbing
are included which makes the event eligible for 2.5 AAA altitude points.

Dave’s Mini Dales Tour                          110KM

A shorter, and some would argue a still challenging alternative covering the 160KM route as far as Kettlewell via Redmire, Aysgarth
and Kidstones. From here you will head North again over Park Rash followed by the long descent into Coverdale, heading through Middleham,
Thirn, Patrick Brompton, Hackworth, taking in the deer park and then through Catterick to the finish. The control times have been adjusted
to suit the majority of riders likely to enter, so with a minimum average speed of 10KM/h almost 11 hours are allowed. Over 1900m of climbing
are included which makes the event eligible for 2  AAA altitude points.

Lucia’s Vale of York Meander             100KM

A much gentler alternative, heading over to Northallerton, down to Thirsk and on to the picturesque village of Coxwold, returning via Kildale.
The control times have been adjusted to suit the majority of riders likely to enter, so with a minimum average speed of 10KM/h
almost 11 hours are allowed.

Car Parking in Richmond

Unfortunately there is no parking available at the Swaledale Outdoor Club HQ on New Road, nor will you be allowed to park in the main square
on Saturdays. The following public car parks offer reasonable daily rates:
  • Nuns Close, Yorke Square and Round Howe – Richmond
  • Station Road -  Richmond

However, your best option is side street parking, which would work well at the following locations –Mason Dieu(on the RHS of the road
– the B6271 Northallerton Road as you head away from Richmond), Penn Road, Off Quakers Lane and West Mews(off Reeth Road to
the right of the village store). Please be sensible and avoid any potential for obstruction.
