 Parking in the middle of Osmotherly I waited nervously, as a few snowflakes fluttered from the sky. This was my first walk with the club and on this chilly grey day, I was wondering what lay ahead. Wow!

About 20 of us braved the cold and icy conditions to meet at the Cross Keys Inn at Eppleby.   Securely fitted with Yak Traks and similiar apparel on our feet we set off across the snowy and icy fields with some resolve toward Stanwick.  James had set us a challenge throughout the walk to  find out the link  between; a US President, Harry Potter, Rolf Harrisand Tony Robinson.  This, we were told, would be assisted by a visit to Stanwick Church on the Duke of Northumberland's land.

At the outset this walk seemed to be something of a challenge. Ten days earlier we had done a reconnoitre of the walk in thick snow and ice.

The weather forecast predicted ‘little wind, snow flurries, extremely good visibility, 80% chance of cloud free summits, minus 4C at 750 metres’. Well, they got one bit right – the minus 4 deg C!!

Bus Richmond to Downholm Bridge 9.30 am

 

There were 15 us--- we filled the bus including the seat next to the driver---there were no other passengers! (there is a later bus which would bring any extra people to Downholm village)
