The social committee decided to organize a ceilidh for everyone to join in this autumn. It meant members of all ages could come to Richmond and dance all evening. We had Tony, a 1 man band providing the music and calling, (he’s amazingly talented) and he kept us dancing and playing all evening.
An excellent weekend was enjoyed by SOC members with a variety of interests including wild- water swimming! The hostel, owned by Wigan Education Authority, had a wonderful setting looking down on Coniston Water and across to the Old Man (not you Graham, the mountain!). It provided a high standard of facilities and comfort apart from a couple of small 2 bedded rooms.
Our fourth Annual Family Ceilidh was held in Dalton Village Hall this year and was enjoyed by those who attended. The numbers were down on previous year’s attendance, but we welcomed one new family and it is great to see the regulars still enjoying it so much.
A good gathering of families (about 12) joined us once again for our family ceilidh held at Cleasby Village Hall near Darlington. The buffet was even bigger and better than the previous year.
I must admit I had my doubts about how this evening was going to work out, as just a few weeks before people were being plagued by me to purchase their tickets as they had said they would support such an event and yet very few actually committed by buying a ticket in advance. Sorry if I panicked a bit – there was no real need to!
A fun evening was had by the participants of the event, we all played shuv ha’penny, hoopla, bar billiards, bagatelle, table football and pinball. There were fewer people than last year so we had room to manoeuvre our shots.
The clubhouse was full of games and competitors expressing joy and dismay as 7 teams pitched their skills against each other in the annual pub games evening.
