The club supports a wide range of skiing interests including downhill, mountain touring and cross country. Advantage is taken of any snow locally or in Scotland in addition to trips abroad. SOC is associated with the Harwood Ski Federation who operate a downhill slope in Teesdale.
The Section Organiser of the Skiing Section is currently adopting a role of “point of contact” for the activity of the Section rather than attempting to actively lead or offer a full or regular programme of events. This is in response to the current levels of support for this particular activity within SOC. The Club certainly wishes to maintain a presence within Skiing and to provide advice and expertise to members who would like to become involved, or to learn more about this activity. This fits in with the Club’s ethos of involvement in a wide range of outdoor activities which is one of our greatest strengths.
So please be aware that:
- the published programme for Skiing is intended as a sample of available events or activities and these may not always be actively “led” by an SOC member.
- the Section Organiser will happily advise by email or phone on any aspect of events, equipment, specialist knowledge related to Skiing but will not necessarily be on hand to accompany or supervise SOC members new to this activity.
- the Section Organiser retains membership of SOC Committee but will not necessarily be a regular attender at meetings.
