WALK FROM KELD SUNDAY 10 FEB. 2019
SUNDAY 10 FEB: WALK FROM KELD
Nine Walkers started out from Keld on greyish morning to walk via Cotterby Scar to Low Bridge where we stopped for coffee. From Low Bridge we followed a short section of road to High Bridge, then climbed across very soggy moorland over Black Hill to Angram. On the way, I enlivened proceedings by giving an impromptu demonstration of beck crossing (ie how not to do it), failing in my attempt to make a decent jump over a stream not much more than a yard wide. My boots are reasonably water-resistant but aren’t proof against standing in knee deep water!
From Black Hill we descended to Angram and from there followed the path to Thwaite stopping at a pleasant spot by Skeugh Gill Beck for lunch. By now the sun had come out and stayed with us for the rest of the day, giving superb views in the crystal-clear air. From Thwaite we walked the field path to Muker then on through the village to the track following the right bank of the Swale, gaining more lovely views of Swaledale, Swinner Gill and Crackpot and so back to Keld. Thanks to Ann, Glenys, Brian, Bruce, Graham, Ian, Patrick and Peter for pleasant company en route.
P.S. this walk replaced my planned route to Nine Standards which will hopefully be rescheduled for later in the year when ground conditions won’t require waders.
