Richmond Walk 13 April 2017

Twelve members joined me for a walk from Richmond Market Place hoping for sunshine to enjoy some springtime scenery and flowers; we were not disappointed. To the racecourse via Westfield, passing Natural Retreats where the hillside was ablaze with gorse. Taking in the spectacular clear views in all directions we continued to Coalsgarth, through the plantation to Willance's Leap and then round to Deepdale. Curlews on the top, small swathes of cowslips and signs of orchids to come and then a yaffling green woodpecker as we headed to the river. The sun came out for lunch by the  sand martin colony, where we saw several of these summer migrants, and also a dipper. Primroses and wood anenome in abundance and emerging bluebells as we continued through the wood. Then to Round Howe for our return to Richmond along the river, seeing a pair of goosander.

Thank you to all, Caroline Stott.
