Walk Report – Oxnop Gill & Ivelet from Muker, Thursday 24th May 2018

15 members gathered at the Muker car park for this classic short, easy walk. The forecast had been for some sun later in the day but in the event, we were blessed with warm sunny weather for the duration of the walk.

We left Muker car park and were soon engaging the attention of 2 curlews, who warned us off in no uncertain fashion. A short section of road walking enabled us to gain a little height and we had a coffee stop a little earlier than we had planned, due to some dissention in the ranks. We carried on gaining more height to Oxnop Gill and we had an excellent photo opportunity when there was a glorious display of late bluebells. We descended down to Satron with great views all around. We were hoping for a sight of a Kingfisher but the nearest we got was when Yvonne thought she had spied one, only to declare that it was probably a budgie !

We had lunch at Ivelet Bridge where Steve told his 4 cheese jokes and a new one – What do you call it when you see a hen eyeing up a piece of lettuce ? – Chicken Caesar Salad !

Following lunch, we had an idyllic walk by the river to the bridge at Muker, enjoying the many sightings of ducks with their offspring. We finished off the walk in fine style with refreshments at the Farmer Arms and /or Tea shop. It was interesting to note that the walk included new ground for a few of our seasoned walkers.

Many thanks to all who joined us on this brilliant day in Upper Swaledale.
