Harkerside Moor from Reeth Thursday 21st July

11 members joined Carol and Steve at Reeth Green for this classic Swaledale walk. The weather was glorious, the temperature having moderated slightly from the 30 degrees which we had earlier in the week. We walked down to the suspension bridge and had a lovely riverside ramble followed by a slight climb up to the Harkerside Moor road. After a short section of road walking, we climbed up to Maiden Castle for a coffee stop.

We climbed steadily up to the shooting hut and reached the summit, striding out eastwards. We had lunch at Scots Dyke where various members expressed different opinions as to its origin. The views up Swaledale from this vantage point were imperious and irresistible!

We descended to the Grinton road and arrived at the church, taking the riverside path once again to the suspension bridge and back to Reeth. 7 miles of superb walking in magnificent scenery and with superb weather.
