Following on from our succesful West Highland Way in 2010 the ten West Highlanders decided to undertake another trip in 2011. We were inspired by a presentation by Chris and Tony Grogan to undertake the Dales High Way – a walk they had devised from Saltaire to Appleby.
Six more members of the Club elected to join us. Finding and booking accommodation for sixteen was not easy but with some deviations from the route – the biggest one being to Ingleton we succeeded.
This was a great walk with wonderful scenery and generally quiet. It wasn't the best of weather (it rained part of every day) but it didn't spoil the enjoyment of the walk which was enhanced by the good companionship.
One of the highlights was Ian's rescue of a lamb that had fallen down a swallow hole – it's reunion with its mother was heart-warming.
I am sure many tales will be told of the walk and no doubt we will put together a slide show. More details and photographs will be added to the website over time.
