W2W - Wath to Wath on Wednesday 4 May

Posted by Graham Banks on 2016-05-10
Another warm bright sunny day attracted 6 of us out for this 40 mile faster, undulating (and probably more ‘hilly’) ride.
The route from Wath near Melmerby, Ripon passed by two of our NT estates at Studley Royal and Brimham Rocks before descending to Glasshouses and Bewerley.
We turned round at Wath in Nidderdale and climbed up the steep and difficult drainage channel infested road (a first for Peter) over Pateley Moor, and returned via Kirkby Malzeard and West Tanfield, calling for a swift drink at ‘Yorkshire’s favourite pub’ the Bull Inn and attempted a visit to the Marmion tower.
The hills and pace unfortunately got too much for Mark, followed soon after by Colin, so only 4 of us made it to the excellent lunch stop at Pateley Bridge auction mart café. This would have scored very highly (especially on value for money and portion size) had there been more of us and Berni ‘the Pen’. Definitely one to return to.
