Mick's Ride Sunday 19th July Hilly 60 miles
Riders: James, Barbara, Steve, Tony and later on Valerie, and Mick
1 hour before the start of ride I was flapping a bit, as it was pouring with rain, but when I got to the carpark it had stopped, luck of the Irish aye.
We just gave the normal 5 min.extra before setting off as our section leader had informed me she couldn't make it, sorry Bernie I can't help it.
Hamsterley to Wolsingham, we took a single track road off to the right before Bedburn which was just about traffic free, James showed me it last year. Then Frosterly to Stanhope for our first stop at a cafe we haven't used before, huge pots of tea for one and I actually got my toast on a tray with the tea at the same time ha ha. We then took a minor road passing through Brotherlee, that name always makes me smile, then on to Daddry Shield. We then climbed up onto what used to be called the Gated Road, but not anymore, because they have fitted cattle grids which is much better. It is single track but good tarmac and brought us out at Newbiggin, Mid-Teesdale. We then headed down the Barney back road to Eggey Hall for our 2nd more pricey cafe stop. Then up Eggey bank on to Woodland and back to Bish. everyone said they enjoyed the ride.
