Mick's Big Big Birthday Ride

The highlight of November 2017 was undoubtedly Mick's Big, Big, Birthday Ride. 14 people turned up, despite the weather forecast, at Bishop Auckland to join Mick on the ride to Barnard Castle to celebrate his 70th. The day was not quite as wet as forecast but the wind was stronger. It was a fight to keep our bikes on the road as we cycled through Woodlands and onto the moors.

We were very grateful to reach Andalucia (in Barnard Castle not Spain) where two more of our party were sitting in the dry and warm.

The cafe put on a magnificent spread of sandwiches, scones,& cakes all paid for by Mick - thank you very much for your hospitality. We weren't going to have a cafe of the year competition in 2017 having pigged out last year on 50 cafes but the spread was so good I've decided to re-instate the award just for Andalucia.

The ride back was easier with less hills and more protection from the cross winds. However, because of our leisurely lunch we arrived back in Bishop in the dark made worse by heavy rain.

A tough but very enjoyable ride.
