Liz's Ride Wednesday 15 July 2015 Roots Café to Fletcher's Farm Cafe, Little Ayton
Seventeen riders set off as a group from Roots café, but the chain was soon broken, literally! The gang became strung out after Liz went up the bank through Hutton Rudby and her chain broke.
I won't make any puns about the missing link amongst us, suffice to say that Barbara went ahead, calling out for a chain link extractor. Vic called out from behind the hedge as she went past "I've got one" but his boasts went unheard. (He also made his trademark comment at a later point, "you're not here to enjoy yourselves").
I'm told that a mystery man from Redcar, a cycling Samaritan, offered up his chain link extractor to Liz-in-a-tight-Corner, such that with his supervision and the persistence of Peter Bennison, the chain was fixed.
Overall, it worked out rather well, considering the size of the group, that about half arrived at Fletcher's Farm café some time ahead of the remainder. In addition, we had the benefit of new premises for the café, which is now housed in a barn with lots of glass and an undercover balcony.
Having been fed and watered, the herd headed back to their other farm, Roots, without any significant incidents. A few of us moseyed into Roots for further refreshments, during which time Mr Hallett and Mr Charlton chewed the cud.
Thank you to Liz for providing us all with an enjoyable day.
