Hutton Rudby to Kildale - Weds 20 April

Posted by Graham Banks on 2016-04-22
This was a ride I’d postponed from the Winter programme due to poor icy conditions.
Thankfully it proved a perfect sunny Spring day for it, with clear views, blue skies, golden daffodils and lambs frolicking.
After coffee and cakes for many at Zac’s café at the Methodist Chapel, six of us set off to climb up the completely smooth resurfaced Carlton Bank. Eight others headed off on a low level route weaving around the villages. All made it up the big hill with no bother and proceeded over to Chop Gate and the quiet road around Urra, then on to Clay Bank car park to admire the fantastic view over to Teesside and Co Durham.
We all met up in Ingleby Greenhow and raced to get our orders in at Glebe Cottage tearooms at Kildale. We managed to get round 3 picnic tables and enjoyed a good lunch sitting under very welcome sunshine.
We returned via Great Ayton (and Seamer) and noted the colourful decorations for the TDY race - due to pass through Gt Ayton and Hutton Rudby on Sunday 1 May.
Eight of us took the high road past Capt Cook’s monument and enjoyed some great scenery,
Definitely the best weather ride so far this year!
