Enjoyable wander round Upper Wensleydale - Aysgarth Falls and Semerwater
Wandering round Upper Wensleydale - Wednesday 1st March
A good turn out of 12 met up at Askrigg Village Kitchen to celebrate the first day of (meteorological) Spring on my guided tour of Upper Wensleydale.
It promised to be ‘a bike adventure like no other’ around the best (and hidden) bits of my home territory, taking in lots of pretty villages, waterfalls, Semerwater, Gayle Mill and other tourist attractions.
See http://cycle.travel/map/journey/35233 for the 32 mile hilly route followed, although some took a slightly shorter, less steep course missing out on the two Newbiggins in particular. Everyone did the section from Lake Semerwater up to Countersett and over to Burtersett, which was quite a challenging climb!
The weather was kind with lovely sunshine to start, but worsened as the day progressed.
A light lunch was enjoyed, whilst it rained, at the much celebrated Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes followed by some fantastic free cheese scoffing.
We thankfully made it back to Askrigg just before the heavy rain arrived.
