They say the sun always shines on the righteous and that was certainly true on Saturday 7th February for my Charity Soup & Ride. Peter & I were joined by Yvonne, Jenny, Barbara, Liz, Bernie, James & Steve Rogers for a flat(ish) ride to Thirsk Garden Centre. After a week of ice & snow we started off in dry but overcast conditions. After about an hour Liz & I left the main group & returned home to prepare the lunch. By this time the sun had made an appearance and shone all afternoon. The others continued on for a brief refuelling stop at the Garden Centre after which Peter led them home via Upsall & Borrowby.

By the time they arrived home we had been joined by Judith, Lyn & Frances to enjoy 3 homemade soups, fresh rolls and a selection of homemade cakes (made by my colleagues at M&S).

Everyone made a donation to the Friarage MRI Scanner Appeal and purchased some raffle tickets. Judith & Jenny both won a bottle of Rosé,  Steve & Frances won some beer & Barbara won a large box of chocolates which her & James managed to make last for a whole week (totally unheard of in the Bennison household!) All the raffle prizes were donated by my colleagues at M&S.

On the day the proceeds were £164 for the food and £16.05 for the raffle. Later Bob Blythe & a friend of mine gave me £5 each bringing the grand total to £190.05 (no, I don't know where the 5p came from either!)

I'd like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who supported me and look forward to repeating the event next year!

Hope to see you all at the Ceilidh on 7th March. If you haven't got a ticket yet, contact Barbara Gravenor as soon as possible. It's a really fun night - good music, great exercise & tasty food -  no dancing experience necessary! What's not to like!
