Brompton: Sion Hill Hall
This was Lucia’s first ride and proved very eventful. Carol, Steve, Lyn, Janet, Vic, Ken, Liz, Anne, Lucia, Barbara and I rode at a gentle pace from Brompton via Danby Wiske, Yafforth and Maunby to Sion Hill Hall where we had to ensure that Lucia was not carried away by the eagle owl.
Anne was concerned that with the trailer she might not be able to keep up with us. She need have no fears – our concern is that when she doesn’t have Lucia with her she will be unstoppable – we will have to load the trailer with our luggage to slow her down.
After refreshments the return journey took us through Thornton Stud to Knayton. Liz decided to be a guinea pig for our new incident/accident reporting system and threw herself off her bike bruising her shoulder and badly gashing her arm. After some roadside first aid Liz was able to cycle back to Northallerton and the Friarage Hospital where after a long wait her wounds were cleaned up. She is now making a steady recovery.
There is a full programme of Wednesday rides in the next quarter and the slower, shorter rides every third Wednesday continue to be popular. If you are a new cyclist or haven’t been out on a bike for sometime then these rides make a good starting point.
