Bowes Museum & Future Events

We were fortunate to have a pleasant sunny day for Mark’s ride on Saturday 24th February, with lunch at the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle.

In fact, we were very fortunate indeed, because almost half  the rides in the six weeks from the beginning of February (6 out of 13) were cancelled due to the weather.  This has been frustrating! We want to be bike fit for the Spring! There’s much to look forward to in the next programme, starting in Berwick with “Dave’s Easter Trip - various rides”. There’s the Walney to Whitby tour mid-April, a trip to Majorca mid-May (thank you for organising these James) and a whole range of other rides in the programme with local starting points.

Another significant event in May is the stage of the Tour de Yorkshire starting from Richmond on Saturday 5th May. Barbara says “The town will be celebrating in style. There will be various events and stalls in the Market Place and at The Station plus a big screen so you can watch the race depart from Richmond live then follow what happens on the way to Scarborough without moving!!!

We have offered the SOC clubhouse as a refreshment and loo stop for the volunteers helping with the Tour. It will also be open as a “drop in” for SOC members in Richmond for the event. I am seeking volunteers to act as hosts, looking after the place and serving cups of tea during the day for perhaps an hour . Also, it would be nice if we could offer the volunteers and SOC members some cake in true cyclists style. If you can help please let me know.”
