4th June 2015 Masham to Knaresborough
On the last two rides I have led along the Nidderdale Greenway Barbara and I have only been joined by one other person - James on a very wet ride to Knaresborough and Steve on a very windy ride to Wetherby. Today we were joined by 9 other people. We rode from Masham via Grewelthorpe to Kirby Malzeard where Yvonne had a mechanical breakdown - her derailleur changer broke and went into her wheel. It was unrepairable on the road. Yvonne asked a lady in the adjacent bungalow if she could leave her bike there whilst she walked back to Masham for her car. The lady insisted on giving Yvonne a lift back to her car - Yorkshire folk!
There was the usual dispute about whether the ride was undulating, as advertised, or hilly as some felt it was. Understandably as we went up and down (my definition of undulating) via High Grantley, Sawley, Shaw Mills and Clint to pick up the Nidderdale Greenway through Ripley and then the Beryl Burton Way to Knaresbourough. James left us just before Knaresborough to cycle home (he has already cycled to Masham from York).
After a leisurely stop by the river we returned on a much flatter route through Farnham, Bishop Monkton, Ripon, Wath, Thornborough and Well to Masham.
A very pleasant ride with pleasant company - thanks to Berni, Yvonne, John, Jenny, James, Peter, Pauline, Graham, William and Barbara.
