22 July 2015 Brough - Alston
Seven cyclists turned up to join me at Brough for a long and hilly wednesday ride circumnavigating Cross Fell. After a gentle start through the Westmorland villages via Appleby, the ride got a bit more strenuous with the delights of the climb up Hartside, the fast downhill to Alston, a climb over Yad Moss, another fast downhill to Middleton in Teesdale, and a climb up past the reservoirs over Shot Moss and back downhill to Brough. It also took in 3 cafe stops - at the Melmerby Village Bakery for coffee and scones (where we admired some very nice cycle parking stands); at the Blueberry Cafe in Alston for lunch, then tea and cake in Middleton in T. The observant reader will note that every time we had a cafe stop, it was followed by a climb which was bad planning on my part but didn't seem to matter too much. Noting that the Tour of Britain in September has a stage finish at the top of Hartside another ride has been planned by James to spectate.
