Andy F and I had only been parked at Trowbarrow for 10 minutes when Phil pulled up with Ruairidh, Harry and Andy P. Three climbers had been to Trowbarrow before and 3 hadn't. Clear blue skies and sunshine meant it was the third Sunday on the trot for fab weather. (I hope this isn't our summer me thinks). It was 10.00am and we were the first climbers of the day to arrive. Later we would be the last climbers of the day to leave.
Phil and son lost no time in knocking out Barrier Reef (S 4A). Ditto for Harry and Andy P on Coral Sea (VS 4C **). The same could not be said for Andy and me on Jomo (VD ***). First climb of the day and all that was my excuse.
Phil wanted to lead Jean Jeanie (VS 4C ***). So did Ruairidh. Ruairidh wont the lead. Harry and Andy P went onto tackle Javelin (E1 5B **). Andy F and I tackled Barrier Reef. Next Harry lead Hollow Earth (HVS 5A ***) Andy P was second followed by Phil on top rope.
Finally Phil lead Harijan (VS 4C) with Andy F as second. Ruairidh said he liked the look of it so rather than wait he and I climbed Ramp Ant (S 4A *). By now it was 4.15pm and Ruairidh was leading Harijan. I was second. Becareful of rope drag it states in "Lancashire Rock" he did and with very nice rope work too. The sun started to set and a wind had got up when it was my turn to climb. I was pretty cold and I thought Harijan and I were in for a struggle. However apart from one bit of gear, a nut, which drove me mad I finished the climb before dark.
It was now time to go to the pub. Phil neatly avoided a kamikaze deer en route to the New Inn and after drinks we all went home.
