Early June Bank Holiday
Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2012-07-09
Due to a bad forecast in Wales Andy's weekend was changed to the Lakes. Then when he injured his ankle the previous Wednesday at Ravenscar the weekend away was looking like a no hoper. However late on Saturday afternoon things were back on so Andy P and I met Andy F at Turner Hall Farm campsite. It was too windy for an evening climb so we waited until the next day. On the Sunday it was still windy but fortunately Wallabarrow crag was sheltered and we spent all day there.
On the Monday we emerged from our tents to bright sunshine. We had no hesitation on choosing Gimmer Crag. On arrival Gimmer was surprisingly quiet for a sunny Bank Holiday. Andy P suggested Bracket and Slab (S ***). He lead with Andy and I following. The sun kept shining and the day's climbing was second to none.
On the Tuesday rain was forecast from midday so we drove to the little known Cockly Crag close to where Wrynose joins Hardnott. We only achieved 2 routes before the rain commenced. We packed up our gear and Andy went home. The other Andy and I stayed another night at Turner Hall Farm but sadly it continued raining solidly for 24 hours and we climbed no more.
