Caves of Birkwith
On Sunday 13th March Richard was joined by Bob E, Bob S, Nick, Chris, Peter and Louise for his Caves of Birkwith trip. The plan was to visit Old Ing and Birkwith Caves and the through trip from Calf Holes to Browgill.
Although the water levels were generally higher than normal in the stream above Calf Holes the through trip went as planned. On the way back out Bob E and Chris explored the upstream passage. Next was a visit to Old Ing Cave which is a pleasant walk through stream cave with a sump at the end which Bob E (complete with dry suit) had a close look at. On the way out Chris and Nick checked out the sump by-pass crawl to the Baker series while the rest of us explored Birkwith Cave as far as the canal. There was sufficient water flowing down the cascades to make it interesting but not difficult.
