Dave Achieves 10 Year Milestone

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2010-08-14

We're not usually in the business of blowing Dave Atkinson's Trumpet (he usually manages that himself!) but on 27th June he finished the Alternative 3 Coasts 600KM audax which means he has now ridden 10 Super Randonneur Series from 2001 to 2010 - an SR is achieved by completing a  200, 300, 400 and 600KM event in the same year-which grants him the award of Ultra Randonneur, so well done Dave.

Pink Heifers Win Gold!

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2010-08-13

The Pink Heifers took winning position at this year’s 24 hour mountain biking race – Mountain Mayhem! They have had several 2nd places over the last 2 years and fought for all of the 24 hours this year to clinch victory. Very well done to the team who are all SOC members – Sally, Rachel, Emma and Lucy. Our mountain bikers also did very well at the 10 hour race at Kirroughtree; Alan and Sarah were 2nd in the super super vets with 2nd and 3rd places in the ladies pairs going to Lucy and her friend, Karen and Sally respectively. Well done!

Marathon A Huge Success!

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2010-06-16

The 31st Swaledale Marathon took place on Saturday 12th June and gave me my 3rd opportunity to start the event and wish all 471 starters on their way. Yet again the weather was kind and viewed very favourably by all participants with 463 completing the course.

Action Packed Multi Section Relay

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2010-05-16

The multi section relay took place in the Peak District over the weekend of 15-16th May based at Ravenstor Youth Hostel. Yet again we were very fortunate to have an excellent venue from which to be based and also the added bonus of some great weather for the weekend’s activities. Saturday morning kicked off with Richard’s runners leaving the hostel and heading towards Carlswark Cavern from Eyam Dale Shaft and a successful handover.

Applegarth Bridleway Victory

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2010-05-12

I am delighted to advise that, following the Public Inquiry in early March where Alan Jackson and John Deighton presented evidence to oppose the downgrading order on the Applegarth bridleway, the Planning Inspector has decided NOT to confirm the downgrading order. This means the bridleway remains a bridleway. This is excellent news for cyclists and horse riders who wish to enjoy this beautiful part of the Dales.
