Inter-section relay fun in the Lakes

Posted by Sarah Bridge on 2014-10-06

Forty SOC members got together at Grasmere Youth Hostel last weekend for another inter-section relay. Our baton (Graham the sheep) was carried by mountain bikers, canoeists, cyclists, scramblers, cavers, runners and walkers over Loughrigg, across Windermere, up Raven Grag, through Cathedral cave, along Langdale and finally back to Grasmere. We then had an evening of games and quizzes to round the day off and completely exhaust everybody.

SOC Family Ceilidh

Posted by Barbara Gravenor on 2014-09-19

The SOC Family Ceilidh will be held at Dalton Village Hall on Saturday 15th November 2014 5.30pm to 8pm.

Tony Hill will again be supplying the music for dancing and other entertainment. The collective buffet tea has been very popular over the past four years, so we are asking everyone attending to bring an item of food. There will be a soft drinks bar with items for sale on the night. Any aged children are welcome-they all enjoy prancing round to the music even if they don't formally dance! Adults you are welcome too.

Many members of the club flocked to the Cote de Grinton last Saturday to take part in the massive party that was the Tour de France. Large groups camped out at Dales Bike Centre and Grinton Youth Hostel and a great weekend was had by all.

Posted by Paul Brooks on 2014-06-15

Well done to all 436 competitors who completed the 2014 Swaledale Marathon. Conditions were cloudy and slightly humid, but with a breeze on the tops and the sun breaking through in the afternoon. Apart from occasional hill fog affecting the tops, the magnificent views of Arkengarthdale and Swaledale were on display.

Further details and full results can be found on our marathon pages here

SOC Ceilidh - Saturday 22 March 2014

Sixty members of SOC enjoyed a great night out at the Ceilidh and buffet held at The Forum in Northallerton in March, both the band and the caterers came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. A couple of club-wide trophies were awarded on the night - Judith Hallett won the Swaledale Trophy and Isobel Brooks won the President's Shield so very well done to both of them. Many thanks to Liz Corner and Judith Hallett for organising everything extraordinarily well.

Family Christmas Ceilidh – Saturday 30th November 2013

Posted by Swaledale Outdoor Club on 2013-12-19

Our fourth annual family ceilidh was held in Dalton Village Hall this year and was enjoyed by those who attended. The numbers were down on previous year’s attendance, but we welcomed one new family and it is great to see the regulars still enjoying it so much. Liz booked Tony, the solo player and singer and we think he’s fab. He thoroughly enjoys leading the evening with the kids, offering prize money generously from his own pocket. This year though he gave it all away in the first game and Izzy won a grand £4.30 (ish)
