SOC Club Camp July 2016

Posted by Barbara Gravenor on 2016-07-13

The club camp at Usha Gap, Muker attracted a good cross section of SOC members with families well represented. Steve and Carol found an excellent B&B nearby and a number of people came and went over the weekend in order to take part in activities. Anna who had organised the weekend put up the club shelter in the middle of a large field which we had almost to ourselves. The facilities at the campsite were excellent and the views inspiring. Two walks, a cycle ride and a caving trip were on offer on Saturday morning.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered, ran or walked the Swaledale Marathon on Saturday - a great day. The weather was fairly kind, mild temperatures and not too much cloud on the tops. The start on Semer Water

A very successful inter-section relay was held on Saturday 23rd April with members canoeing, cycling, mountain biking, caving, walking and climbing their way from Semer Water in Wensleydale all the way back to the clubhouse in Richmond. The weather was kind though cold and the day ended with a very sociable get together in the club house to finish the relay off in style. Great to see so many members out doing a wide variety of activities.

50th anniversary AGM weekend at Grinton Youth Hostel

Posted by Barbara Gravenor on 2016-02-22

More than fifty members of SOC attended, at some time, the weekend at Grinton Youth Hostel in February. Some came for Saturday's AGM, some came for the cycling, walking, mountain biking and caving activities on Saturday and Sunday and some came for the whole jolly lot! Although the weather on Saturday was not the best, those who had taken part in an activity returned to the hostel full of good spirits and ready for tea and cake in front of the rugby on TV. Following the AGM meeting, some forty people sat down to a hearty hostel meal, served very professionally by the friendly hostel staff.
