Snow on the Ranges

Posted by Judith Turner on 2016-11-22

We were due to lead 2 rides in November; one from Richmond on the Saturday and one from Reeth on the Sunday. Due to an original poor forecast for the Sunday, we bailed on that one and put our effort into the Saturday ride – apologies for that as Sunday wasn’t so awful in the end.

Back to Saturday and there were 4 keen folk joining Steven and I - Alan and Sarah, Mike and Melanie who is starting to become a regular with us and supporting the theme of ‘swinging both ways’ between the sections!!

An easy going (?) outing from Langthwaite

Posted by Sarah Bridge on 2016-11-01

Five of us met up in Langthwaite for a Saturday easy going ride. Dave T, Alan and I welcomed Mel (that well known roadie!) and her friend Janet for their first go at mountain biking with the club. We set off up the hill to Fore Gill Gate and then on up toward Punchard Gill and all had fun on the grassy track that switchbacks down into Arkengarthdale. We stopped for a snack and to inspect a strange relic of the mining era and then carried on up the Stang to Moresdale Road.

The Cake Off 2016

Posted by Sarah Bridge on 2016-11-01

The moment we've all been waiting for - Cake Off 2016 day! But first we needed to work up an appetite so thirteen of us met up in Reeth to climb a few hills and make space for cake. We arrived to discover it was the day of the Scott Motorcycle Trial so I gave up on my planned ride on the north side of the valley and we headed for Apedale instead. A steady plod (with a speedy descent in the middle) took us up to Apedale Head and we then headed around Harkerside on the pleasantly dry stretch of singletrack through the heather.

A Slightly Muddy Birthday Ride

Posted by Sarah Bridge on 2016-09-26

Our last club ride in September was just before my birthday so I advertised cake and fifteen people came along! Always works! We got to Square Corner above Osmotherley at 10am for a 10-30 start and discovered Dave T, Mike, Liz and friend Kevin were ready and waiting. A heavy shower slowed down our preparations for departure and by the time we set off Phil, Karen, Emma, Graham, John, Ed, Nev, Sas and Skye had also turned up. Sas and Skye set off for a walk and the rest of us headed down the singletrack in the direction of Hawnby.

Bike Park Wales

Posted by Sarah Bridge on 2016-09-21

Eleven of us turned up at Bike Park Wales near Merthyr Tydfil on a slightly drizzly Saturday morning ready for some downhill only bike park action (BPW is a purpose built trail centre with a minibus and trailer uplift service). Present were Andy J, Karen, Neil R, Neil S, Dave T, Mike, Liz, Nigel, Andrew W, Alan and me; dressed in a variety of full face helmets, knee pads, elbow pads etc.

Last weekend

Posted by Sarah Bridge on 2016-09-05

We had a nice time out on the moors above Marske in the heather and sunshine on Bank Holiday Monday.

Judith and Steve's August rides

Posted by Judith Turner on 2016-09-05

In August Neil S, David G (long time, no see), Karen and Jenny accompanied Steven and I on the Leighton Reservoir ride. The tracks were somewhat undefined in places i.e. we got lost and there was quite a lot of heather bashing going on. We did have a cracking day out with the girl's team winning all the medals on the climbs!

High Cup Nick

Posted by Sarah Bridge on 2016-08-31

I was lazy before we headed off to France and didn't write up our ride to High Cup Nick, I'm doing it now because it really is an amazing place and well worth visiting. Alan, Mike, Liz, Jenny and I met up in Dufton and plodded our way up the tarmac road to the bridleway near the top of Dufton Fell, it's steep in places and judging by the number of roadies it's become a popular test piece. The bridleway down was fiddly and fun singletrack, mainly dry and easy enough to find this time.

A two cake day

Posted by Sarah Bridge on 2016-08-31

Russ, Jenny, Ian, Alan and I met up in Bainbridge on a lovely Saturday (luckily reorganised from Sunday as that turned out wet) and Russ led us off up Stake Allotments. A longish slog up but then a long descent down dry limestone into Buckden for our first cake stop of the day - scones were popular but Alan made do with apple pie and ice-cream. We then re-traced our steps and climbed back up to the top for the even longer descent down to Stalling Busk. The rocky and lumpy lower section of the track was good fun with no falls and no submissions.

Kaye's Memorial Ride

“Kaye’s Ride” – remembering Kaye Graham, by Vicky Chilcott, Hamsterley Trailblazers
Many thanks to everyone from Trailblazers and S.O.C who came out for Kaye’s Ride on Sunday 10 July 2016 at Sutton Bank.  We were riding to celebrate and remember Kaye Graham (“Olly’s Mum” as she was affectionately known) who sadly died last April after battling cancer.
Kaye was a staunch supporter and founder member of Traiblazers and she also enjoyed joining  S.O.C on their mountain bike rides.
