From Start at SE044990 turn left and follow tarmac road uphill towards High Fremington. Bear left onto stony track, then left again onto an initially tarmac road which is followed to Fremington Edge. Go along Fremington Edge Top with the wall on your left. Go through gate in wall at NZ031022. Continue on path descending grassy slope to pick up track to Storthwaite Hall and Langthwaite. Turn left over bridge, then right and right into lane by church. Do not cross bridge to Scar House, but turn left onto track to Checkpoint 1 - Stang Bridge NZ000036.
Follow gated road to Checkpoint 2 - farm entrance Low Faggergill NY980050. Checkpoint 3 - Great Punchard Head NY945042. Via Little Punchard Head turning left onto Friarfold Rake where it crosses the bridleway to Self-Clip A NY959021. Checkpoint 4 - Level House NY963014. Self Clip B - Gunnerside Gill NY947014. Stay high to Winterings, then descend to follow Gunnerside Beck to Checkpoint 5 - Gunnerside Village Hall SD950982 (right over bridge).
Cross back over bridge on main road towards Richmond. Take gated track leading uphill on left and follow bridleway to Self-Clip C SD980984. Left onto uphill track through Blades. Checkpoint 6 - Surrender Bridge SD989999. Join higher track and follow to stile at NY996002. Keep on this contour above all intake walls. If in doubt keep high - do not follow track down to Healaugh. After 2½ miles a farm appears ahead; cross open ground well to its left, rounding a wall corner to follow gated lane that descends via Self-Clip D SE036995 to Finish - Reeth Village Hall SE038994.
