Liz's Ride Wednesday 15 July 2015 Roots Café to Fletcher's Farm Cafe, Little Ayton

Posted by Bernadine McDonald on 2015-07-29

Seventeen riders set off as a group from Roots café, but the chain was soon broken, literally! The gang became strung out after Liz went up the bank through Hutton Rudby and her chain broke.

I won't make any puns about the missing link amongst us, suffice to say that Barbara went ahead, calling out for a chain link extractor. Vic called out from behind the hedge as she went past "I've got one" but his boasts went unheard. (He also made his trademark comment at a later point, "you're not here to enjoy yourselves").

22 July 2015 Brough - Alston

Posted by on 2015-07-27

Seven cyclists turned up to join me at Brough for a long and hilly wednesday ride circumnavigating Cross Fell. After  a gentle start through the Westmorland villages via Appleby, the ride got a bit more strenuous with the delights of the climb up Hartside, the fast downhill to Alston, a climb over Yad Moss, another fast downhill to Middleton in Teesdale, and a climb up past the reservoirs over Shot Moss and back downhill to Brough.

Mick's Ride Sunday 19th July Hilly 60 miles

Posted by on 2015-07-27

Riders: James, Barbara, Steve, Tony and later on Valerie, and Mick

1 hour before the start of ride I was flapping a bit, as it was pouring with rain, but when I got to the carpark it had stopped, luck of the Irish aye.

We just gave the normal 5 min.extra before setting off as our section leader had informed me she couldn't make it, sorry Bernie I can't help it.

Honister & Whinlatter passes from Keswick Wednesday 1st July, 2015

Posted by Carol Charlton on 2015-07-09
We had invited Cyclists to meet at the Keswick Lakeside Car Park for our ride, prior to our walk up Cat Bells with the Walking section the next day. We had picked a great spell of weather for this 2 day break but in all honesty, we could have done with cooler conditions. The car thermometer read 27 degrees when we reached the Car Park prior to our ride. We greeted our group of 11 and set off through Keswick, Portinscale and onto Grange where we had our first coffee stop.

Steve & Carol’s A2C, (Aspatria to Carnforth) 8th – 12th June, 2015

Posted by Carol Charlton on 2015-06-21
Monday 8th June
We set off around 3pm by car with bikes on the back to drive to Carnforth. We stopped for tea and cake on the way near Ravenstonedale and then onwards to book into our nice B & B – Capernwray House, 3 miles from Carnforth where we planned to leave our car until collection at the end of our cycle tour. We had a bar meal at a nearby Pub which was fine but the Landlord was Mr. Dreary and the pub was tired. Back to our B & B for a good night’s sleep.

Ravensworth to Fremington 10 June 2015

Posted by Yvonne Armitage on 2015-06-11
What a gorgeous day for a gentle ride over the moors to The Bike Cafe at Fremington. Only Four people set off from Ravensworth and another, Dave, joined us near Marske. The moor birds were calling, the lambs were bleating and the army were shooting.

4th June 2015 Masham to Knaresborough

Posted by James Gravenor on 2015-06-05

On the last two rides I have led along the Nidderdale Greenway Barbara and I have only been joined by one other person - James on a very wet ride to Knaresborough and Steve on a very windy ride to Wetherby. Today we were joined by 9 other people. We rode from Masham via Grewelthorpe to Kirby Malzeard where Yvonne had a mechanical breakdown - her derailleur changer broke and went into her wheel. It was unrepairable on the road. Yvonne asked a lady in the adjacent bungalow if she could leave her bike there whilst she walked back to Masham for her car.

Cycling on Mull

Posted by James Gravenor on 2015-06-05

The Canoeists kindly invited the Cycling and Walking sections to join them on their camping holiday on Mull. The trip was fated from the start. Several people cancelled because of the weather forecast and Patrick attempted to go but had a blow-out in his car on the A66. Steve and his son Simon arrived on the Monday night and met some of the canoeists who were keeping warm around a fire.

Gilling West to Gilling East 25th April

Posted by James Gravenor on 2015-04-26

Melanie, Jenny, Barbara and I set off from Gilling West at 8am. We only just made the start time Barbara having set our alarm for 6.45 in the evening rather than the morning and me falling down the step in the kitchen in my hurry to get out.

Leyburn to Langstrothdale cycle ride 22nd April

Posted by Barbara Gravenor on 2015-04-26

It could have been the prospect of cycling through beautiful dales landscapes in perfect weather, or the challenge of climbing both Fleet Moss and Park Rash in one day, that brought out 9 brave cyclists on this Wednesday ride.
