Birchen 17 May 2015

Posted by Carol Burgess on 2015-05-18

Despite the cold weather it was a good turnout of 8 climbers for Sandra's meet. Harry, Ray, Ian, Mark and Anne and Andy and me. Between us we covered most of the crag from Emma's Slab to Kismet Buttress.

Rivelin 10 May 2015

Seven of us met off the A1 for Dave's meet. There was Dave and John, Phil, Janet and Sandra and Tom and me. Coincidently Callum and Emma had chosen Rivelin to climb for the day. I won't take you through every route we did. Collectively we covered VD to HVS. The weather was warm and sunny for most of the day.

Giggleswick Sunday March 15th 2015

Posted by Carol Burgess on 2015-03-16

Andy and I met Harry at Giggleswick. We had the crag to ourselves which was just as well as none of us had been on rock since October/November last year. As Harry put it if we disgrace ourselves no-one will know. The weather was kind to us with no wind and intermittent sunshine. It was a good day and we felt like we had opened the account for the season.

Helvellyn Sunday 1st Feb 2015

Posted by Carol Burgess on 2015-02-03

It was a great day. Phil and Janet met Astrid and me for the drive to Thirlmere. We were parked at the start by 9.30am. The route was Helvellyn and Nethermost. The weather was nigh on perfect. Sunny but cold enough to retain the snow. It was so sunny I remember thinking I should have packed some sun screen. The summit was busyish and for good reason blue skies made the views second to none. There was a blanket of white snow everywhere. Blencathra looked paticularly good. When we had to drop down from the summit I didn't want to leave.

The Dalesman

We were joined for our Park Nab meet by Andrew Gallon reporter and photographer for the Dalesman magazine. Who was doing a feature on the SOC for the June edition and hoping to get some good climbing shots for the magazine.
Unfortunately it was too cold for us to strip down to our vests and lycra so we weren`t seen at our best!- Though a photo of Mark was featured in the article causing much bitching and jealousy amongst the "Old Greys" of the climbing section.

Rivelin

The weather forecast said dry weather for the Peak, but as we headed South down the M1, windscreen wipers on fast speed, Sandra was unconvinced threatening to head to Leeds Wall if it was still wet at Leeds. Luckily there was a hint of sunshine in the South as we passed Leeds. By Sheffield the Sun was shining although there had been significant rainfall earlier so we had a splodgy walk up to the crag wishing we had brought our wellies.
