Birchen Sunday 31 July

Posted by on 2016-08-02

Seven of us met at the A61 layby to head for Birchen Edge. We picked up Callum at Sheffield and Emma met us later at the crag after she finished work. Ray and Stuart were tempted by harder climbs at Gardoms (same car park). The remainder of us did the classics such as Top Sail, Powder Monkey Parade, Sail Buttress, Trafalgar Crack and Wall. All climbed in near perfect climbing weather conditions. The nearby Robin Hood Inn called to us at 5pm but it was shut! This required a search of Baslow to rehydrate. Phil.

Gouther Sunday 29 May

Posted by on 2016-06-01

It was a good turn out. Phil and Will, Harry and Sandra, Paul and Finn and Andy and me. The weather was Tshirt sunny throughout the day. However being a Bank Holiday weekend this "quiet crag" was mega busy. Besides other routes we all climbed the 3* Fang. Most did Hindleg Crack and Finn led Sostinuto.

Bram Crag Sunday 15 May 2016

Posted by on 2016-05-15

Harry's meet at Stanage was changed to Bram Crag at Thirlmere. We were Mark, Ray and his son Stuart, and Will and Carol. The weather was much better than forecasted. Anyone who has climbed at this crag will know there is a great range of sport grades. We covered routes up to 6c+. These included Desperate Dan (Stuart led), Bobby Dazzler (Will), Take it or leave it (Carol), Tremadol Nights (Mark and Ray) Blencathra Badger (Will), Vale of Secrecy (Will and Carol), Ship of Fools (Carol) Barrow Boys Day Out (Will) and Tunnel Vision (Mark).

Wainstones 20 April

Wednesday 20 April a warm and sunny Wednesday evening meet at Wainstones

Posted by Phil Wadsworth on 2016-04-27

Snaching a blue sky Tuesday in April Jim Dale, Ed Chicken and John Smith took off to Borrowdale and a classic route. 450ft in 6 pitches with rock wet and slippy in places it was a day for big leather walking boots rather than slick soled rock boots.

Incredibly it was sunny  the next day for the club meet at Wainstones. A fab evening with a good turnout made somewhat surreal by a student film crew. We found ourselves in the middle of a sword and sandals fanasy about Banshees.

Where was Dave Thompson when he was needed.......

Brimham Sunday 24 April

Posted by on 2016-04-27

Phil, Will, and Ian looked at the weather forecast and the north facing aspect of the planned crag Rocky Valley Ikley and decided to go to Brimham instead. We were pleasantly surprised to be in the sun and out of the wind most of the time, shedding several of the layers we`d pessimistically packed.
Will was introduced to Yorkshire Gritstone leading Majola VS Right Hand Crack VS and Birch Tree Wall. Ian led Cracked Corner VD, and Lovers Leap S. and I led Parallel CracksVS and Left Edge VS ( a new route for me the left edge of Lichen Slab)

Wharncliffe 3 April 2016

Posted by on 2016-04-05

Seven climbers tipped up for Phil's meet at Wharncliffe. We were Phil, Mark and Anne, Will, Graham, Ray and Carol. The weather was nice and Spring like but the night before it had rained throughout the night. Consequently we made the most of the fine weather covering most of the classic routes.

Mark led Lucifer (E2) and Serrated Edge (E1). Ray led Richard's Revenge (E1). Graham led Himmelswillen (VS4C) and Putrell's Progress (S4A). Will led Tower Face (HS4B). Phil led Railway Wall (VS4C) and Hellgate Crack (HS4B). Anne led Romulus (V Diff) and Remus (S4A).

Intake Ridge, Combe Gill

Posted by Phil Wadsworth on 2016-03-03

A long awaited sunny day saw Astrid lead Phil, Janet, Ed, and John up Intake Ridge in Combe Gill. The rock was intermittent with grassy sections inbetween the buttresses, but was clean and dry and made pleasant scrambling. We carried on up the ridge to the top of Glaramara putting on crampons for the last couple of hundred feet of steep snow. At the summet it was sunny warm on the sheltered side so we enjoyed our butties before decending the ridge above Raven Crag and back down into Borrowdale.

Bramcrag Quarry Sunday 11 October

Posted by on 2015-10-12

We were 9 climbers for Sandra's meet. Harry, Ray, Astrid, Mark and Anne, Paul and Fin and Andy and me. A very good turn out for a very good crag. The crag is a work in progress. On the approach from the car I spoke to one of the bolters bolting new routes. He told me 30 new routes have been bolted since the release of the Fell and Rock Climbing Club 2015 guidebook.

Everbody had a good day you couldn't not with such fun climbing. I think Fin liked it. When asked what he thought of the excellent 3* Blencathra Badger he replied "It's alright" !!
