SOC Fell Runners enjoy participating in a variety of events throughout the Pennines, Lakes and North York Moors and we also venture North of the border.
A primary objective is to encourage participation in organised events held under the jurisdiction of either the FRA (Fell Runners Association) or LDWA (Long Distance Walkers Association – open to both runners and walkers). There is also widespread interest in Mountain Marathons. Whether interested in competing in actual events, or simply getting out for a run mid-week, SOC Fell Runners are all united in their love of running in the hills and wild places.
As an SOC “all section” event (all club members welcome) long distance relays have been organised – Teesdale Way in 2007, Cleveland Way in 2008, Wainwright’s Coast to Coast in 2009 and Pennine Way in 2011.
(The Section Organiser of the Fell Running Section is currently adopting a role of “point of contact” for the activity of the Section rather than attempting to actively lead or offer a full or regular programme of events. This is in response to the current levels of support for this particular activity within SOC. The Club certainly wishes to maintain a presence within Fell Running and to provide advice and expertise to members who would like to become involved, or to learn more about this activity. This fits in with the Club’s ethos of involvement in a wide range of outdoor activities which is one of our greatest strengths.
So please be aware that:
- the published programme for Fell Running is intended as a sample of available events or activities and these may not always be actively “led” by an SOC member
- the Section Organiser will happily advise by email or phone on any aspect of events, equipment, specialist knowledge related to Fell Running but will not necessarily be on hand to accompany or supervise SOC members new to this activity
- the Section Organiser retains membership of SOC Committee but will not necessarily be a regular attender at meetings.) |
