Or "What's new" - a way of finding links to new or updated stuff beyond the five most recently modified articles provided by the site navigation system. Only runs from early 2011, but I hope this will help to make maintenance easier, and keep regular visitors informed about changes and new content. It's not intended to be comprehensive for all the minor changes and typos that get fixed. Every entry should come with links to the new or significantly revised content. The "Canoeing latest updates" list on the home page will show articles which have only had minor changes.
2012-05-06 Andy: Added Pete's newsletter article about the Circumnavigation of Ireland, which has just started.
2012-04-17 Andy: Fixing typos and a few other tweaks for consistency across the site - the "Recent changes" headers will show a lot of articles that are not recent and haven't changed very much !
2012-03-21 Andy: I've been fiddling with mapping software, so expect to see a few minor updates as I change links to the maps of past sea and river trips.
2012-03-16 Andy: Added last weekend's Lune trip to the Depths of Winter write up, and finally, a reasonable photo.
2012-03-12 Andy: Improvements to the Lofoten trip's linked map (which now comes with Norwegian charts and better aerial photography and a lot of extra photos not in the article itself), with a few concomitant adjustments to the write up.
2012-02-23 Andy: Minor updates to the Upper Wear favourite river page (Eastgate weirs removed, Killhope Burn waterfall put-in)
2012-02-22 Andy: Finally finished the Boldron Paddlefest trip report, added photos to the Upper Swale favourite river page, and completed the Wharfe favourite river page. Extra links in the overview Favourite Rivers page.
2012-02-10 Andy: Added two trip reports to Paddling in the Depths of Winter write-up
2012-01-26 Andy: Added Pete's Knapdale and Loch Sween sea trip write up
2012-01-18 Andy: Several short trip write ups in Winter first half roundup along with a few photos and a video of the Nith.
2011-12-29 Andy: Adding an Upper Swale favourite river page - there's a video (two of the paddlers were SOC members) in the videos gallery, and a few stills will go on the description page when it's finished.
2011-11-29 Andy: Quite a few typos and minor updates this week, notice of some club Boats for Sale, and one major write up of the recent Scottish trip to Pitlochry.
2011-11-02 Andy: Still haven't managed to get the promised photos for the Greenland write-up, so have added Wendy's Landscape photo winner from last year's photo competition to give the article at least a minor bit of graphic interest... Added a link from the Tees favourite river (overview) page to a video of a recent (non-SOC) descent of Cauldron Snout.
2011-10-31 Andy: added some levels info and an important note about disinfecting gear to the Keswick Greta Favourite river page.
2011-10-18 Andy: added missing information to the Favourite Rivers: Upper Tees page, fixed a broken link to the EA gauge graph, added a video (see also the 2011 Photo competition - don't forget to vote:) and improved the access map. Also fixed some damaged links on the Favourite Rivers: Tees overview page.
2011-10-11 Andy: Added Ann Jones' September sea trip write-up (Ross of Mull), and linked all the videos used on the site to the new "Videos" menu item.
2011-09-27 Andy: minor updates resulting from tidying and organising images - if you find any pictures missing from articles, let me know, but I hope I got all the URL changes and the site should look just the same as it did before :)
2011-09-20 Andy: minor updates to Tees River Guide, Barney to Winston section
2011-09-10 Andy: August whitewater paddling in the UK, and 2011 Alps trip reports added (photos added to latter on the 23rd - sorry for the delay)
2011-08-11 Andy - minor additions to all three alpine Favourite Rivers pages in light of 2011 trips' experience. Changes to "Planned trips" page to reflect the fact that the alps trip has now happened (and no current plans for a return in 2012). Minor tweaks to Tees Greta favourite river page after a late summer trip in fairly high water. Probably more tweaks to come on the alps pages with this year's photos.
2011-06-29 Andy: Added a photo to the Farnes favourite trip description showing the way out in some bigger surf.
2011-06-28 Andy: Added photos and a new trip write-up to the Midsummer whitewater 2011 trip report (and a couple more photos 2011-07-03)
2011-05-25 Andy: new question in Sea Kayaking FAQ - What will sea conditions be like ? Links to Inshore waters forecast and really useful wind/wave viewer (every three hours to 7½ days out) from NOAA.
2011-05-20 Andy: Minor changes to Argentière - easy river trips; Argentière - harder rivers and Argentière - Park'n'Play: mainly adding links to GPS track-based location maps (more of these to come).
2011-05-19 Andy: first draft of River kayaking - What equipment do I need ? published.
2011-05-18 Andy: lots of minor changes following a review of photo captions. Added the Wet West Paddlefest 2011 to the Planned Trips page.
2011-05-17 Andy: Added a Family Freshwater multiday (sea-)kayak touring write up of Loch Shiel. Added a few links to the Sea Kayaking Stages page
2011-05-16 Andy: Added a link to the Mobile Geographics Xtide predictions master index from the "How do I get tidal predictions?" section of the Sea kayaking FAQ list.
2011-05-14 Andy: added link to Sea kayaking FAQ list on how to register your phone for SMS (text) calls to 999. See under "how do I contact the coastguard?". This is a useful facility for emergencies in poor signal or noisy conditions when voice calls may not work. In fact it's sufficiently important that I've added a link to the Whitewater FAQ list, too, under "How to call for help ?". You cannot use this facility without registering your phone - do it today !
2011-04-21 Lyn Rogers: added an embryonic version of the Greenland trip report. Don't worry - we'll tidy this up soon and add photos and links, it's published already so it can be linked from the electronic newsletter.
2011-04-17 Andy: added a section on decision-making to the Safety on Canoeing Trips page.
2011-04-16 Andy: various minor tweaks and fixes this week, including fixing a broken link to Norwegian tide predictions on the Sea kayaking FAQ list and a few odd improvements to the Lofoten logistics and additional notes pages.. There's also a plea for Irish coastal maps from Pete and Wendy in the rather well hidden (and registered-users-only) For Sale & Wanted page.
2011-04-05 Andy: Updated the Upper Tees favourite river page with link to map showing a slightly more kosher access route at the put-in, and fixed link to the Middleton gauge graph which the EA had broken.
2011-03-23 Andy: Changed the FAQ instructions for joining the canoeists' mailing list to reflect the change from Majordomo to Mailman. Amended again to reflect change in mailing list names. Now we are canoeists@ not canoeing@ !
2011-03-19 Andy: Finished adding photos and published Tony's South Tyne from a Novice Perspective write-up.
2011-03-11 Andy: Embryonic Lofoten Additional Notes page with a diagram of the tides in Moskenstraumen. I've got quite a bit of info to add here, but the page is not very useful yet...
2011-03-10 Andy: Added It's not always like this updated from the old website (introductory sea trip from Tayvallich over three days), with links to maps. Added Two Trips down the Lune - both this year's. Added Boldron Paddlefest 2010, five days paddling at October half term, 52 person-river-descents.
2011-03-09 Andy: Added River Roy/Fechlin trip report, Yellowstone 'sea' kayaking trip report and Raasay and Rona at Easter trip report. More photos to gallery and lots of typos fixed.

2011-02-12 Andy: Finally located and scanned some photos to add to Ellie's Ardnamurchan Head write-up
2011-02-02 Andy: Finished the Lune description, which is now published. Added the initial incomplete draft of Hydrology for Paddlers, on which I'd welcome comments and feedback.
2011-01-26 Andy: Some of the river guide pages include a level graph from the EA site. At least once, they have changed the underlying URL of the graph so that we got the wrong river for several days - and you can't tell by looking. The URL for the image is now a small PHP script which gets the EA page for the relevant site and parses out the URL of the graph, so we should much more reliably be getting the right one. The same technique works for the SEPA gauges on Scottish rivers where the URL of the graph is different every time the page gets updated. Currently the PHP scripts are off-site, but I hope we can put them on the SOC site when they've been thoroughly tested. Visually, you won't see any change on the SOC site, but behind-the-scenes coding like this should make everything work better :-)
2011-01-23 Andy: Apart from two images (one of which I can't provide a title or caption for and the other should really go in the Walking Section Gallery), all the images on the SOC site used by Canoe Section are now properly part of the gallery. There are two remaining images hosted off-site which will be put in the Gallery when I can get titles and descriptions from the photographer. This pretty much clears the messy legacy of not knowing the best way to upload images during the initial phase of building the site and should make the site a lot easier to maintain for anyone taking over. It's still possible that images are linked from their old names - if you spot any missing from articles (or linked maps), please let me know, so I can fix them !
2011-01-21 Andy: Images used to index favourite trips now hosted on SOC site and made a bit bigger. A significant number of images which were on the site but not properly incorporated into the gallery have been re-uploaded to make them appear, with conventional filenames, captions and descriptions. A job still in progress, but now nearing the end !
2011-01-20 Andy: New trip report - Tees Greta at high level.
2011-01-19 Andy: New Favourite River - The Lune, just photos and a link to a map so far, more details to follow (not yet published)
2011-01-16 Andy: Added two photos to the Tees Greta description, with some details of the river at higher water levels than we usually paddle it.
2011-01-14 Andy: Moved the majority of photographs that had been hosted on my flaky server offsite, into the Gallery.
