Christmas Walk / Lunch

On Sunday 9 December about 30 walkers met in the freezing fog in Ravensworth at 11am for pre-Christmas Dinner walks. A choice of 2 routes were provided by Yvonne and Alison. Yvonne's route, proposed as the easier and to include a possibility of two stops, went to Kirby Hill, then Sturdy House, passing through Whashton and returning via Whashton Bridge. Alison's route, proposed as the harder with no planned stops, went to Dalton, then Gayles and to Kirby Hill via Gayles Quarry and Hurgill Lane on the return.

Both groups were treated to stunning seasonal scenery as everywhere out of the sun was covered in a thick layer of frost. As the fog was resting in the valleys, both groups also enjoyed a wider view in bright, warm sunshine for some part of their stroll. Yvonne's spritely gang returned at 1.45pm to the refuge of the pub - it was rumoured that throughout the route Vic kept asking when the bus would arrive, only to find it did when they got back to Ravensworth. Alison's gang breezed in at 2.15pm, having had an obligatory coffee stop - Brian had his poured and half drunk, whilst the rest debated whether to stop (you know what those cyclists are like for tea shops!).

There followed the walking section Christmas Dinner at 2.30pm which was attended by nearly 40, in jovial spirit. A hearty meal was enjoyed.
