Club Camp 2001How successful this year's camp would be was uncertain due to the dreaded Foot & Mouth disease. In fact about 50 people ( with a good number of our junior members ) turned up at Lowfield Caravan and Camping Site at Staintondale between Whitby and Scarborough. This is a nice little site with access through woods to Hayburn Wyke, a wild rocky bay less than one mile away and with a disused railway line running close by. I think all enjoyed the weekend. The Cleveland Way, which runs along this excellent piece of coastline, was open from Scarborough to Ravenscar and the railway track was open from Whitby to Scarborough. This allowed both walkers and cyclists to enjoy some good outings of varying standards. The countryside, for so long out of reach, looked wonderful with lots of wildlife and flowers. The weather was generally good with occasional hot sunshine but some cool mist from the sea up the coast. Saturday barbecue went well, most people joining together under the new club gazebo (augmented by another owned by Val and Tony) and doing their cooking, eating and drinking at this central point. In all an excellent weekend - many thanks to Val and Tony for organising it. John Deighton |
