Is Ice Cream a Starter?

Sunday morning breaks and the weather reports say it will be as hot as Rio so it's off to Bainbridge and a Roman Road to nowhere. The usual suspects of Paul, Nic, Pete, Dave, Kay, Ed, Steve and Judith are there and after a chat with the walking section we are soon moving on up the Cam Road. After an hour's slog chasing rocket man Paul we hit the top and cruise round to the Pennine Way where we stop to have a snack and take in the views on a glorious sunny day. Mountain bike touring at its best !

The single track descent was twisty and demanding and the temptation to speed was unbelievable. It had to be done. Arriving at the main road me and the farmer await everyone's safe arrival but true to their recent form Judith and Steve limp in bruised and bloodied after their crash.

In Gayle there is disorder amongst the ranks, one of the roadies amongst us wants a tea stop. Now I don't want to spread any careless whispers - it was Steve.

Tea and cake provide a tonic for the troops and a brief interlude before our long climb up Beggarmans Road to the top of the Roman Road and another short climb up to our high point of the day. Five miles and fifteen minutes later we are again in Bainbridge after literally flying down the loose rocky road - dual slalom racing at times - excellent.

We finish the ride with cigarettes and alcohol and after a lot of mickey taking it's homeward bound. To cut a long story short, good ride, company and scenery. Just makes you glad you are alive here on planet earth.
