Back on home territory

Sunday 23rd February saw us out to tackle a 20 mile 'toughish' ride around Reeth. The prospect of a fruit scone and it's amazing what happens - we had 13 turn out in total (or should it be the baker's dozen?) - Liz worrying what was ahead of her but game for a laugh, and we had 3 potential new members from the Thirsk area. We started with a nice climb out of Healaugh (1 in 3.5!) to take us around Low Moor and onto Great Pinseat. Then crossing Low Moor the boys set off at a pace as they hit the downhill - full suspensions and disc brakes challenged to the full - just proving it doesn't matter what kit you have when you round a corner and hit snow unexpectedly! Head plants and narli air by at least 3 of the group! Then it was onto Arkengarthdale and the single track from Langthwaite to Grinton and home again. The single track was tough in the summer but very sticky indeed in the winter - nice day for a walk I thought and left the boys to it! - It's always the responsible leader that leads from the rear and makes sure everyone is ok - that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
