The Ice Cream Errand

Judith, Ian, Paul and Roland left Reeth at about 09.30 for the planned seventy miles. We trundled over Arkengarthdale to Tanhill before swooping down Stonesdale to Keld. At Thwaite we clambered over the Butter Tubs Pass then coasted to a cafe in Hawes. At the cafe - during a power-cut - the intended route over Fleet Moss to Hubberholme was discussed. It was too late, Paul (hijacker) Smith had begun to sow the seeds of doubt in the minds of Judith and Ian about Fleet Moss. We decided to take the short undulating route on the high road back along Wensleydale.

Just before the run-off to Castle Bolton. Paul had convinced Judith and Ian that a trip to an ice cream shop would be a good idea. After a while, it became obvious that Paul had not revealed to Judith that the shop was at Jervaulx.

After Judith (ice cream addict) had finished sampling the range of flavours we were bound for Reeth.

The day had started with mist on the moors but ended in a calm, warm and sunny evening ride over Bellerby Moor. Sixty seven enjoyable miles for an ice cream.
