Roland's Ride to Masham

Seven cyclists departed from Masham at 10am, the departure was slightly delayed as the late Tony Jones and Valerie turned up as we were about to go

Roland assured us it was a flat ride as we climbed out heading for Grewelthorpe.

There was some doubt as to who was leading the ride as Paul decided we should take on a few more hills to High Grantley, round by Fountains Abbey and though some beautiful lanes in full bloom to Sawley. Lunch was at Boroughbridge where we came across a bakery come cafe with another group of cyclists already there - a sure sign of a good stop.

Through the lanes to Ripon where we had a look at the recently constructed stretch of canal then through the city centre and on to Tanfield where Paul left us. After that the pace mysteriously slowed a little and the ride leader took over and we returned to Masham to complete a very pleasant day out though uncrowded lanes we don't normally explore on the bikes.

Thanks Roland, or Paul - we must do these roads again some day.
