A Meander from Masham

This was originally programmed as Peter's ride, but unfortunately he was unable to lead so yours truly volunteered.

It was a cold fresh wind that made me shiver, and regret my offer as I put the Eagle on the car, but I headed down to Masham anyhow hoping nobody would show. A very enthusiastic Liz, and an equally unenthusiastic Paul were already there when I arrived. Given the fairly ropy weather we decided to head to Ripon and back and keep the adventurous stuff for another day.

We headed uneventfully through Grewelthorpe, Kirkby Malzeard and Winkley, before taking the estate roads past Fountains Abbey towards Ripon. We were just on the outskirts when my front tyre punctured. A careful inspection revealed not one but two thorns, which were dutifully removed, the wheel put back into the bike and blown up. It was only as I went to put the tools away that we realised that I'd put the holed tube back in the tyre. Doh! Anyway the practice always comes in handy.

Once I managed to fix everything correctly, we headed down to the Sun Palour cafe in Ripon. Somewhat as a treat as I hadn't been for years, and didn't realise the place was still open. Once refreshed we beaded back to Masham via Azerley and Grewelthorpe.

Thanks to Paul for his invaluable knowledge of the lanes, saved me looking at the map at every junction!
