Masham

It was a very cold day, but at least it was fairly sunny as 5 of us met in Masham. The ride was led by Liz as Peter couldn't make it, but in her new capacity as cycling leader she has delegated the report writeup to me. (Power does go to some people's heads a little too much!)

We set off on the main road out of Masham towards Boroughbridge, and it was pretty busy. Lillian and Ray thought it might be a good idea to stop off in Tanfield for a little shopping, but we told them the barrels wouldn't fit on Tortoise with both of them too! We headed into Ripon and went straight round onto the quieter Sharow lanes. Mind you, it didn't last long as we entered the Boroughbridge road which had a constant stream of cars. I was assured that once in Boroughbridge I would not be disappointed as we would visit one of the best cafes around. Good! A bike ride would not be the same without a cafe, but the trouble was I'd spent most of my money in Masham market as we'd arrived early! Good old Dave came to the rescue!

They were right, the cakes were scrumptious!

After a long lunch we headed onto the quieter lanes back to Ripon and round across Grewelthorpe and the moor back to Masham. I was so pleased to have ridden that road as my mum always tells me she did it every day for 6 years on a 3 geared bike and I should think myself lucky to have so many gears. I didn't envy her at all! Of course there was the customary cafe stop, but after the cakes from lunch time we only had tea!
