Kildale Barn WeekendThe weekend of June 17th-18th started with a thunderstorm that was so bad it delayed three members of the group until the rain ceased. One had to bail out the parlour after it had become flooded due to the poor drainage from the highway. Northallerton was facing severe flooding and two of us were blissfully unaware of how close the floods had come to entering the front door. A persistent downpour in Hutton Rudby delayed the arrival of another two members until Saturday morning. The weather improved to showers and so the planned rides for Saturday could go ahead. Tim and Brian set off up along the Cleveland Way and over the unmetalled road across Rutland Rigg then down into Hutton le Hole for refreshments. Alan, Liz, Melanie, Helen and Paul headed along to Danby for a late breakfast stop at the bakery and then on to Fryup Dale where Paul persuaded Melanie to take the high road and hilly route over to Rosedale and the infamous Rosedale chimney was climbed to catch Brian and Tim leaving Hutton le Hole. Liz, Helen and Alan took the hilly road from Fryup Dale to Blakey Ridge and into the Red Lion for their refreshments. Tim, Brian, Melanie and Paul met up for drinks in The Red Lion to find the other three had left already for an early shower at the bunk barn. Brian, Tim and Melanie took the old railway route back to Kildale and Paul opted for the speedier road back. Saturday evening and Ian had arrived for the evening barbeque along with the Hallets. A feast was prepared and devoured with the usual outdoor club gusto. Paul |
